The subjects were equally divided into the experimental and control groups. During the first stage of labour, those in the experimental group were given music sessions in addition to normal nursing care, whilst those in the control group received only normal nursing care. The research instruments consisted of a linear pain assessment form and a labour-pain-coping behaviour assessment form. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, whilst statistical comparison was made based on a Chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, independent t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The experimental group showed significantly lower average degrees of active phase pain and transitional phase pain than did the control group (t = 4.80, p < 0.001 and Z = -5.369, p < 0.001, respectively). In addition, the experimental group’s average active phase and transitional phase pain-coping behaviour scores were significantly higher than those of the control group (t = -7.98, p < 0.01 and Z = -4.239, p < 0.001, respectively). Recommendations:Listening to music as part of mental image creation during the first stage of labour can help reduce primigravidae’s labour pain and enable them to cope better with it. Moreover, this method is safe and can be conveniently self-administered.}, number={1}, journal={The Journal of Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council }, author={วัดยิ้ม นันธิดา and รตินธร เอมพร and พาหุวัฒนกร วรรณา and โควาวิสารัช เอกชัย}, year={2014}, month={Mar.}, pages={95–107} }
