Factors Related to Health Promotion Behavior of Wemen in Golden Age at Health Center 57

Objective: To study the factors related to health promotion behavior of wemen in golden age who came to attend Health Center 57

Study design: Survey study.

Subjects: Four hundred and two healthy wemen, aged 40 - 59 years old without history of oophorectomy and hormone replacement therapy and live in Nongborn and Daukmai districts, Prawet, Bangkok who came to attend general clinic of Health Center 57 Boonroeng Lambert for 3 months during May - July 2002.

Methods: To survey health promotion behavior and related factors of wemen in golden age such as personal factors, severity of symptoms from estrogen hormone deficiency and social support by filled the information questionnaires and analyse by statistical package for the social science personal computer (SPSS/PC+).

Main outcome measures: Compose of independent variables such as personal factors (marital status, family income), severity of symptoms from estrogen hormone deficiency, social support and dependent variable such as health promotion behavior of wemen in golden age.

Results: The health promotion behavior of wemen in golden age was mostly (53.7 percent) in low level especially the exercise.  The study showed that family income was statistically significant related with the health promotion behavior (p < 0.01), Social  support  was positively significant  related with the health promotion behavior (p < 0.01). Severity of symptoms from estrogen hormone deficiency was negatively significant related with the health promotion behavior (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: Family income influences to the health promotion behavior of wemen in golden age.  Severity of symptoms from estrogen hormone deficiency effect to discourage appropriate health promotion behavior. Social support will encourage  wemen in golden age to perform good health promotion behavior.
