Data were collected by using: 1) the demographic characteristic records, 2) the patient history records, 3) the Body Mass Index (BMI), 4) the Health Perception Questionnaire, 5) the Social Support Questionnaire, and 6) the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS). Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficients.

Main findings: The mean BMI level was overweight (M = 24.15, SD = 4.82). While the mean score of health perception and the overall social support were at a good level, M = 129.60, SD = 14.77 and M = 69.28, SD = 11.73, respectively, the mean score of lower extremity’s function was 43.52 (SD = 9.62). Obviously, body mass index had statistically significant negative correlated with early physiological recovery (r = - .31, p < .05). On the other hand, the health perception and social support
had statistically significant positive correlated with early physiological recovery (r = .46, r = .28; p < .05).

Conclusion and recommendations: Nurses should promote the proper health perception and social support and suggest patients with foot and ankle fractures to perform activities appropriately in order to early recover after a cast is provided.

}, number={3}, journal={Nursing Science Journal of Thailand}, author={Kulasa, Pitawan and Chanruangvanich, Wallada and Thosing, Orapan and Riansuwan, Kongkhet}, year={2016}, month={Sep.}, pages={106–115} }
