TY - JOUR AU - Vongsirimas, Nopporn AU - Sitthimongkol, Yajai AU - Wiratchai, Nonglak AU - Beeber, Linda AU - Sangorn, Sopin PY - 2011/09/30 Y2 - 2024/03/29 TI - The Parental Bonding Instrument (Thai Version): Psychometric Testing for Use in Adolescents with Depressed Mothers JF - Nursing Science Journal of Thailand JA - NURS SCI J THAIL VL - 29 IS - 3 SE - Research Papers DO - UR - https://he02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/ns/article/view/2854 SP - 19-28 AB - <p><strong>Purpose:</strong> To test for reliability and construct validity of theParental Bonding Instrument (PBI) – Thai version for use inadolescents with depressed mothers.</p><p><strong>Design:</strong> Methodological research.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Data from a previous study of 460 adolescents withdepressed mothers were used to assess construct validity byconducting a confirmatory factor analysis through LISREL,and reliability by calculating Cronbach’s alpha coefficient.</p><p><strong>Main findings: </strong>The analysis yielded satisfactory results ofchi-square = 302.30, df = 266, p-value = 0.062, RMSEA= 0.017, GFI = 0.96, AGFI = 0.93 The results support that thePBI consists of two components: caring and overprotection.Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were 0.88 for caring and 0.80 foroverprotection components.</p><p><strong>Conclusion and recommendations:</strong> Findings indicate thatthe PBI is a reliable measure for use in Thai adolescents withdepressed mothers. This instrument will be of great benefitfor use as an assessment tool for both research and clinicalpurposes.</p> ER -
