The subjects were recruited by purposive sampling including 8 nurse supervisors, 33 head wards, and 240 nurses have been working for more than one year. The data collected using the 3 questionnaires developed by the researcher composed of the Demographic Data Sheet, the Needs and Responsiveness of Self-Development in Professional Nursing Role Questionnaire, Problem and barrier for Self-Development Questionnaire. The instruments were approved the content validity by 3 experts. Reliability of the Needs and Responsiveness of Self-Development in Professional Nursing Role Questionnaire was 0.08 using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistic. The mean scores of needs and responsiveness of self-development in professional nursing role of nurses was compared by pair t-test.</span></p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-cluster;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: &quot;Angsana New&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;; font-size: 15pt;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;"> </span>The results showed that the mean score of needs of self-development in professional nursing role of the subjects was at a high level<span lang="TH"> (X<span style="top: 2pt; position: relative; mso-text-raise: -2.0pt;"> </span></span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>= 3.71, SD = 0.58<span lang="TH">)</span>. The mean score of responsiveness of self-development in professional nursing role of the subjects was at a moderate level <span lang="TH">(X<span style="top: 2pt; position: relative; mso-text-raise: -2.0pt;"> </span></span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>= 3.2, SD = 0.49<span lang="TH">)</span>. There was significant different between the mean score of needs and responsiveness of self-development in professional nursing role (p &lt; 0.05).
