The patients come to the hospitals earlier, then fluid overload is more predominant problem than death from prolonged shock. To evaluate the occurrence and associating factors of fluid overload in dengue hemorrhagic fever patients, a retrospective study of pediatric patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever admitted at Chaoprayayomraj Hospital between January 2010 and September 2012 was performed by collecting clinical, laboratory and fluid administration data (the type, amount, rate and duration) from medical records. We classified patients in two groups of severity (shock and non-shock) and analyzed factors associated with fluid overload by Fisher-exact test and Mann-Whitney U test. Of the 210 patients were enrolled, 40 patients (19.0%) were shocked and 32 patients (15.2%) had fluid overload and had received diuretic. Associating factors of fluid overload were shocked-cases, referral cases and total amount of fluid in critical phase that more than maintenance+5% deficit. Cases with fluid overload were also associated with prolonged length of stay. Genders, age and nutritional status were not associated with fluid overload.</p> ER -
