The Analytic Study of Medicinal
Taste in Thai Traditional

Abstract
Objective: This research is to analyze and compare herbal medicinal taste in Thai traditional medicine scrip-
tures to understand the overall of herbal medicinal taste.
Material & Methods: This research is qualitative research by studies from the primary sources there are 7
scriptures such as Sabba-Lakkhana Sabba-Guna Lae Mahaphikad Scripture, Thatviphang Scripture, Thatvivon
scripture, Vorayoksarn Scripture, Ayurvedic book, Brief textbook of medical education and Thai pharmacy text-
book. The study process is analysis, comparison and summary of herbal medicinal taste.
Results: The results showed a single taste in all scriptures. There are 4 single tastes in Thatviphang Scripture,
there are 6 single tastes in Vorayoksarn Scripture and Ayurvedic book, there are 7 single tastes in Sabba-Lak-
khana Sabba-Guna Lae Mahaphikad Scripture, there are 8 single tastes in Thatvivon scripture, there are 9 single
tastes and 10 single tastes in Thai pharmacy textbook. Brief textbook of medical education found the highest
number of mix taste (18 tastes), there are 7 tastes that combination with 3 mix tastes and there are 4 tastes
that combination with 4 mix tastes. The highest number of mix taste found in Sabba-Lakkhana Sabba-Guna Lae
Mahaphikad Scripture. Plain taste only found in Brief textbook of medical education.
Conclusion: Herbal medicines consisted of single tastes and mix tastes. Each scripture had a different medicinal
taste. This research can be further developed in teaching Thai traditional medicine including developed the clinical
practice and applied in concocting and producing herbal medicine.

Abstract
Objective: To develop hair conditioner from
Citrus Reticulata
Blanco (Shogun varieties) peel extract
Material & Methods: In this research, a focused group discussion was studied for data collection regarding their
haircare routine and on-the-market natural hair products. Physical and chemical properties such as solidity of the
products were systematically evaluated before developing a tailormade haircare product. A hair analysis was also
introduced before and after use. The performance of the product and the group’s satisfactory were collected after.
Results: It was found that the sample group looked for products designed to provide soft, smooth and
tangle-free hair, easy to rinse with a creamy texture and orange scent. A squeeze tube packaging in different
sizes was recommended. The physical and chemical test results indicated smooth and fine texture in light
yellow color and light orange scent. The product has good fluidity, no microbial or fungal growth, no creaming
and cracking effect, pH 5-6, is well-absorbed and non-greasy. The hair condition showed strong, non-friction hair
(87.05%), smooth and flexible hair (92.25%). Hair was untangled throughout, reflecting healthy hair (89.15%). The
hair maintained high suppleness and strength against pulling (90.04%) and the product satisfaction assessment was
found at a high level ( x
= 4.40)
Conclusion: From the haircare product performance test, the hair conditioner products from shogun orange
peel extract enhance strong, soft, smooth and flexible hair. The results from product satisfaction assessment
are at high level. This offers an alternative choice of natural haircare products for customers and an increase
in value of agricultural materials for business.

Abstract
Phyllanthus emblica
L. (Indian gooseberry) has been used in traditional medicine for treatment of var-
ious diseases in Asian countries. It has been recorded in Ayurvedic and traditional medicines in Thailand for
antitussive medicine for a long time. It is developed into
Phyllanthus emblica
fruit extract and also medicine/
health products with several health claims. However, there have been not articles discussing its use in Thai
traditional medicine and relevant empirical evidence. The objective of this article is to review and evaluate evi-
dence related to medicinal uses of the Indian gooseberry, including treatment of COVID-19, in order to provide
information for rationale uses. The Indian gooseberry and Thai traditional uses in Tamra Kanphaet Thaidoem
(Pheattayasat Songkhro Chabab Anurak) Volume 1 were listed. The empirical evidence of the medicinal prop-
erties of Indian gooseberry as list were searched in PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink,
ThaiJO and Google Scholar. Eleven out of thirteen scriptures mentioned to 164 recipes contain the Indian
gooseberry, Khamphi Prathomchinda contained the highest number of herbal recipes (32 recipes), followed
by Khamphi That Wiworn (31 recipes) and Khamphi Sapphakhunya (24 recipes), respectively. The eleven lit-
erature searches provided evidence related to cough, sore throat, constipation and pain including treatment
or prevention of COVID-19. In conclusion, the Indian gooseberry can be used as an alternative to cough relief.
The use of herbal mixtures is more common than single herbs for sore throat, constipation, fever and pain.
There is a crucial need for clinical studies on combined treatment with COVID-19.

Abstract
According to the Enactment of the Narcotics Act (No. 7), B.E. 2562 (2019), cannabis is eased from
being a category 5 narcotic drug list. It was permitted only for research and medical use, causing controver-
sial how cannabis affects to human health. Therefore, the objective of this article is to establish an under-
standing and awareness of cannabis use. This article reviews the scientific evidence of active ingredient and
extract from
Cannabis sativa
L. The cannabis contains many types of Cannabinoids. Two main components
are Cannabidiol (CBD) and Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD, used for relieving chronic pain and
anti-epileptic, has non-psychoactive effects. THC containing psychoactive effects is used to relieve vomit-
ing, nausea, and enhance appetite. Other Cannabinoids compounds have various pharmacological actions.
However, the administration of active compounds or cannabis extract can cause side effects. The common
side effects are neurological. According to the available evidence, similar indications of Thai traditional
medicines containing cannabis and cannabinoids-based medicine are antiemetic and appetite booster.

Abstract
Regarding the release of “NARCOTICS ACT A.D. 2019” on 18th February 2019, cannabis-based
medicines have gained social attention among Thai traditional medicine practitioners. As a result, can-
nabis is not considered as Class 5 Narcotics following “NARCOTICS ACT A.D. 2022” on 9th February
2022 by the Ministry of Public Health. Therefore, the objective of this article is to review Cannabis-con-
taining herbal recipes. The ultimate goal is to enhance knowledge, understanding and rational uses of
medical cannabis among Thai traditional medicine practitioners and health care professionals who are
interested. There were 26 cannabis-containing herbal recipes in the reviewed scriptures and textbooks.
Eight of them were incorporated in the approved list by the Ministry of Public Health. Cannabis was the
main ingredient in the recipes that treat symptoms of wind element abnormalities. It was the auxiliary
ingredient in the recipes for diarrhea and hemorrhoid. There was no record of using cannabis as a single
drug in Thai traditional medicine. This is because of its nauseating taste. So, it was necessary to prescribe
cannabis with other herbs for controlling its effects.

Abstract
Pregnant women go through a natural process called labor. The body undergoes modifications in order to
prepare for normal labor during the stages of labor. Pregnant women become exhausted and suffer as a result of
the changes that cause pain and stress during the stages of childbirth. Although some pregnant women choose
for a cesarean section, it is not encouraged. Even though medical technology has evolved and become safer,
vaginal delivery allows the body to recover more efficiently than a cesarean section. At the stages of labor in the
labor room, applied Thai traditional medicine practitioner is one of the multidisciplinary teams. Thai traditional
medicine emphasizes on bodily (court-type Thai traditional massage, hot compression, breathing exercise) and
mental well-being (deep listening, healing touch), The goal is to assist pregnant women with pain relief and
provide positive encouragement during stages of labor. The aim of the article is to provide information on the
Thai traditional medicine guideline for pregnant women's care. The article includes knowledge of Thai
traditional medicine in midwifery and an analysis of the changes of 4 body elements related to a labor process.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases. It is an important public health issue
because of the steady increase in the number of patients with diabetes. The main factors are inappropriate
consumption behaviours and improper self-care that are preventable. Thai traditional medicine (TTM) is the
knowledge that can be used to relieve the symptoms of diabetes. This article presents the management of
diabetes patients using TTM. This article explains the cause of diabetes from Tri-dhātu imbalance leading to
abnormal body elements. TTM uses herbal medicines, maneuvers and advice including having a wide range of
food with different flavours, especially herbs or vegetables to help maintaining the health and balance of body
elements in diabetic patients. This article presents a case report of diabetic patient who used Maturameha in
combination with Western medicine. The outcome of the management was satisfactory and without any
adverse drug reactions. Moreover, we also discussed the evidence-based medicine approach and the use
of
Moringa oleifera
Lam. in diabetic patients as a guideline for providing herbal-based information to these
patients. In addition, information on the treatment of diabetes by Western medicine, which consists of both
pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments. This article also provides considerations for the
appropriate implementation of herbal medicine in the management of diabetic patients, as well as cautions for
some maneuvers due to numbness from peripheral neuropathy. In conclusion, diabetic care with TTM applies
the principle of balancing the elements using herbal medicine and various procedures, such as massage, herbal
compress, herbal steam, and behavioral modification according to Dhammanamai principle. These principles will
help to relieve symptoms, control blood sugar levels and reduce complications in diabetic patients, which will
lead to the improved quality of life.

Abstract
The most prevalent symptom of skin problem is pruritus. It could be caused by skin pathology or other
disorders. In western medicine, tropical treatments are typically used for dermatological conditions or medical
conditions associated with underlying disorders. Traditional medicine is utilized as an alternative or comple-
mentary therapy, including Thai traditional medicine (TTM) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This article
provides an overview of the most prevalent pruritus in TTM and TCM. The four elements of earth, water, wind,
and fire were used to evaluate TTM theoretically. TCM considers the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal,
and water in its conceptual analysis. TTM and TCM both investigated abnormalities in body elements and created
treatment plans. The herbal treatment is personalized to the body elements of each patient. This comparative
perspective could broaden traditional medicine's knowledge. This could be applied to clinical practice or
research in the future, allowing patients to be referred to each other or to a western medicine specialist.

Abstract
“Holistic well-being” would refer to the 4 connected dimensions of life: physical well-being, mental
well-being, social well-being and spiritual or cognition. The dimensions inevitably dictate and affect one another.
One cannot acquire a rewarding life if one, if not more, dimension is not adequately fullfilled. Hence, having an
overall healthy well-being often leads to good quality of life. The suffering that occurs, whether it is physical or
mental suffering, will affect your thoughts, feelings, attitudes, or even your daily life. Relation between mind
and body was mentioned in traditional medicine from the beginning of life (birth), aging, sickness to death as
“The mind is the master and the body is the servant”. “Clinic Rak Jai” is intended to provide service to relieve
suffering and stress with the integration of Dhammanamaya principles (healthy mind) and Buddhist counseling.
This can help alleviate suffering through the mentoring process, providing a comfortable talking or deep con-
versation. Both principles based on holistic care are aimed to mitigate physical sufferings which often present
in physical pain, uplift unsound mental states, and ultimately improve all dimensions of life.

Abstract
Palliative care is holistic care that takes care of physical, mental, spiritual, and social problems by relying
on a range of services delivered by a range of professionals whom all have equally important roles to play in
support of the patient and their families, so this care is an important part of integrated people-centered health
services. Consequently, understanding each other's clinical approaches is crucial which makes treatments
with high efficiency. This article was written for multidisciplinary team or applied Thai traditional practitioners
who would like to learn or understand how to use Thai traditional medicine to treat palliative patients by
applying Thai traditional medicine's core knowledge and authors experience. According to the findings, Thai
traditional medicine focuses on reducing patient discomforts, for example, pain, swelling, and numbness.
Herbal remedies and manipulations, such as court-type Thai traditional massage, hot herbal compression,
herbal patch, as well as personal’s guidance, are used to treat the condition. Thai traditional medicine
treatment also aids in the relief of physical, mental, spiritual, and social problems. In addition, this treatment
is an approach that improves the quality of life of the patient and their families.
