Concentrated growth factor (CGF), the second generation of platelet concentrates, contains many kinds of growth factors as well as fibrin. CGF has higher adhesive strength and tensile strength, and higher viscosity than other platelet preparations. It promotes wound healing and accelerates osteogenesis. This article focused on the preparation and clinical application of CGF, and 4 cases were reported.
Thongnard Kumchai Jirawat Arunakul Hattapol Kumchai Copyright (c) 2021 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-08-29 2026-08-29 34 2 136 146 Importance of the visibility of the scientific article https://he02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/thaijoms/article/view/284606 Yosananda Chantravekin Copyright (c) 2021 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-08-29 2026-08-29 34 2 77 80 Letter to Editor https://he02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/thaijoms/article/view/284608 Yosananda Chantravekin Copyright (c) 2021 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-08-29 2026-08-29 34 2 81 84 Necessity of postoperative amoxicillin prescription after incision and drain of vestibular space caused from odontogenic infection: a double-blind, randomized controlled trial study https://he02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/thaijoms/article/view/284609
The objective of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of amoxicillin after incision and drain for odontogenic vestibular space infection. The design of this study was a double-blind, randomized controlled trial in 88 patients, age between 11-70 years that were diagnosed with odontogenic vestibular space infection, all patients denied immunocompromised medical conditions and history of allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics. The demographic data, chief complaint and clinical appearances were recorded. Preoperative amoxicillin 1 g oral was prescribed, then incision and drain, penrose drain application and extraction were performed. Two groups were simple randomized. The first group, was blinded with pracebo drug orally 3 times a day for 5 day postoperatively. The second group, amoxicillin 500 mg orally 3 times a day for 5 day postoperatively, was prescribed. All patients were evaluated in the follow-up visits on 2nd day and 7th day. For the results, 1 of 88 patients (1.1%) had postoperative infection after treatment and no severe complication was found. Chi-square test showed that postoperative amoxicillin did not impact the results of the treatment. Therefore the necessity of postoperative amoxicillin prescription after incision and drain of odontogenic vestibular space infection is decreased, after adequate incision and drain and removal of infection cause in healthy patient.
Wasitpon Wongweerakit Surachai Apinawathavornkul Copyright (c) 2021 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-08-29 2026-08-29 34 2 85 94 An analysis of orbital floor angulation in 200 Thai people https://he02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/thaijoms/article/view/284610
The objectives of the study were to determine the orbital floor angulation and compare the differences between sides, genders and find the correlation with ages on a retrospective basis. The orbital floor angulation in IM and AP directions were collected retrospectively from computed tomography scan of 200 Thai people. The average of the orbital floor angulations in the different sides, genders and ages were analyzed and compared using paired t-test, independent samples t-test and Pearson’s correlation, respectively. For the results, In the IM direction, the average of orbital floor angulations of right and left orbits were 129.5 and 129.4 degrees, respectively. In the AP direction, the average angulations of right and left orbits were 149.3 and 148.9 degrees, respectively. No significant difference of the orbital floor angulation was found regarding to sides, genders and ages. For conclusion, the factors, including side, gender and age, did not affect the orbital floor angulation. This study can be applied for designing a prototype of preformed reconstruction material for the floor of orbit in Thai people in the future.
Saraporn Koosrivinij Worawan Kunotai Copyright (c) 2021 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-08-29 2026-08-29 34 2 95 103 The accuracy between measurement of Demirjian method and Gleiser and Hunt method modified by Kçhler to test chronological age of 18 years old in Thai population https://he02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/thaijoms/article/view/284611
The objectives of the study was to compare accuracy between measurement of Demirjian method and Gleiser and Hunt method modified by Kçhler to test chronological age of 18 years old in Thai population. A total of 593 digital panoramic radiographs of Thai individuals aged between 9 and 22 years who visited Dental Department of Chonburi Hospital during 2015-2018 were selected to assess age. The age was calculated using Demirjian method and Gleiser and Hunt method modified by Kçhler based on the developmental stages of the mandibular third molar. All of the population with the average age over 18 years had the mandibular third molar teeth in stage G (parallel root walls with open apices), and stage H (apex completed) of Demirjian method and stage 8 (root completed with open apices), stage 9 (apex half closed), and stage 10 (apex completed) of Gleiser and Hunt method modified by Kçhler. Males were likely to reach the tooth developmental stages earlier than females. There was no significant difference in age calculation between right and left mandibular third molars from both methods. The calculation of age using Demirjian method was approximate to chronological age and age calculated by Gleiser and Hunt method modified by Kçhler was over-estimated. In conclusion, age calculation in Thai population using Demirjian method had higher percentage of accuracy compared to Gleiser and Hunt method modified by Kçhler.
Sureepa Wongwanatpong Worawan Kunotai Copyright (c) 2021 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-08-29 2026-08-29 34 2 104 117 Stress and burnout in Thai oral and maxillofacial surgery residents https://he02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/thaijoms/article/view/284614
Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) residents are particularly vulnerable to suffer from work stress and burnout which may have detrimental effects to professional performance as well as a negative influence on patient care. The aim of this study was to assess the levels, prevalence, and the related factors of occupational stress and burnout among Thai OMFS residents. Question-naire in Google Form were sent to all OMFS residents training in Thailand during February-March 2019. Ninety-six (98.0%) completed questionnaires were sent back from totally 98 residents.Thirty-seven residents (38.5%) could cope with stress, whereas 32 (33.3%), 23 (24.0%), and 4 residents (4.2%) had mild, moderate, and severe burnout, respectively. Factors affecting this condition included workload, training condition, poor relationship with supervisor and lacking of consultant
Tatchaya Taenguthai Keskanya Subbalekha Nuntika Thavichachart Pagaporn Pantuwadee Pisarnturakit Atiphan Pimkhaokham Sirichai Kiattavorncharoen Copyright (c) 2021 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-08-29 2026-08-29 34 2 118 125
