Abstract

Addiction is a chronic disease and a public health problem that affect the nation economy and social status.The disease has been called "The addiction brain" The treatment requires the cooperation of all parties. One thing that thetherapist should do is to help these patients decease or quit their drug use. The treatment concepts of the motivationalenhancement therapy (MET) is one option that can help these patients. MET is a form evidence – based, systematicintervention therapy which has been shown to be able to stimulate the patient's intrinsic motivation. This concepts arebased on the principles of motivation psychology. The treatment requires 1-4 sessions. The time of each session is lessthan an hour and the result is fast. The elements of each session compose of assessment, feedback and the motivationalinterviewing technique. The psychotherapists who deal with addiction should be required to have this knowledge and haveexperiences in dealing with these groups in order to be a workforce who can return the clean men to society.
