Abstract

Alcohol addiction is a public health problem that affects the nation economy and social status. The Ministry of Health has policy for alcoholic treatment and rehabilitation at all medical service levels. Thanyarak institute, Department of medical services is an addict institution for both out-patients and in-patients. Out-patient treatment comprises the Modify Matrix Program which applies the concept from the Matrix Institute on Addiction, USA, while In-patient treatment comprises the FAST model which was developed at Thanyarak Institute. The purposes of both models are to create understanding about alterations of the brain by drug effects, behavior modifi cation and to rebuild good relationships between patients and their signifi cant others. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the alcoholics to control and quit drinking.
