Management of Health Promotion Learning Experience in Clinical Curriculum among Medical Students of Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University

Abstract

This research was a descriptive study. The objective was to study the management of health promotion learning experience in clinical curriculum among medical students of Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University. Every subject in clinical years were evaluated for three criterias.     1. Is there are any course outline or learning objective about health promotion?

2. Is there are any health promotion topics in content or learning plan?

3. Is there are any health promotion topics used in clinical practice or report?

The questionnaire was designed based on the need assessment of health promotion knowledge for medical graduates studied in 2009-2010 and the questionnaire were sent to 4-6th year medical students of Faculty of Medicine. Researcher received 101 from total 188 questionnaires sent. (53.7%) Health promotion was  taught in every clinical years depend on the difficulty of each topics. Health promotion issues that were consistent to the policy of the Ministry of Public health were more likely to be taught. Health care management in primary; secondary and tertiary care were the most topic being taught, Because this issue is the Desired Characteristics of Medical graduates from Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University. Elective subjects that were managed by Pre-clinical department did not have topic concerning health promotion in learning objective and learning plan. Forensic medicine had topic of health promotion in learning objective but did not have health promotion topic in content/learning plan and no health promotion topic swere used in clinical practice or report.
