Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery

Abstract

Surgery is the mainstay treatment in most of thoracic diseases for a long time but there are some limitations. Thoracic surgery is the operation that need general anesthesia and long incision with separation for muscle and rib through the chest wall. Therefore, postoperative pain is hardly avoidable which leads to more postoperative morbidity and mortality. After the development of endoscopic techniques, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is a minimal invasive surgery which becomes very popular. The aim of this article is to review articles, recommendations and conclusions about VATS in management of thoracic disease.
