Abstract

The year 2013 marks the centenary of Albert Schweitzer hospital establishment in Lambaréné, The GaboneseRepublic. Under the patronage of H.E. President Ali Bongo Ondimba, the organizing committee held the international AlbertSchweitzer hospital centennial symposium, and invited Dean of Faculty of Medicine of Naresuan University to attend thismemorable event on July 6 - 7, 2013 in Libreville, the capital of Gabon.

Albert Schweitzer, who was philosopher, theologian, musician, physician, and a 1952 laureate of the Nobel PeacePrize, has established the hospital in Lambaréné in 1913. He performed his medical practice and took great care of Africans,under his philosophy “Reverence for Life”. In addition, the symposium was aimed at gathering the international experts’opinions in fighting against the Triple Epidemic of malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS in Africa. Apart from elaborating on attendingthe symposium, this communication describes the autobiography of Dr. Albert Schweitzer, the story of establishmentof the Albert Schweitzer hospital and its medical service information, and the general knowledge of Gabon to commemoratethe venerable person in medicine and public health who is known as one of the internationally - respect person.
