Wisdoms related to local vegetable consumption for health purposes in Sisaket Subdistrict, Na Noi District, Nan Province

Abstract

Introduction: This research aims to study the wisdom of consuming local vegetables for health purposes and to study the transfer of wisdom to consume local vegetables for health of the villagers in Sisaket District, Nan Province, by in-depth interviews.


Method: In-depth interview technique was used. The development and the examination of the interview was qualified. The target group was 40 people who were knowledgeable and obtaining wisdom of local vegetables. These comprised of older persons, folk doctors and people who cooked at home.


Results: It was found that the participants of the study have wisdom of consuming local vegetables. The wisdoms can be divided in two types; 1) consuming local vegetables for health promotion
and 2) consuming local vegetables for curative and preventive diseases. These wisdoms were transferred to others by 1) conversations in family and community 2) role model of persons who
cooked and consumed local vegetables 3) writing and recording as books and local records.


Conclusion: There are wisdoms of consuming of local vegetables among Sisaket villagers for promoting health and treatment of diseases. Public health personnel should use these results to promote health of the villagers.
