Abstract

Introduction: This was a medical education research to evaluate learning achievement of Thammasat medical studentsin epidemiologic study design subject by e-learning compared to lecture.

Method: Pretest and posttest knowledge were compared after learning with e-learning and group interview werealso done. Moreover, summative results of students of academic year 2010 and 2011 were compared.Samples of this study were 57 of 5th year medical students of academic year 2011, and 55 of studentsof academic year 2010. Both of them studied at Thammasat university, Rangsit campus.

Result: Results showed pretest and posttest knowledge with e-learning were significantly different (p-value< 0.001). Posttest average score was more than pretest score. Summative scores in epidemiologic topicusing 5 items of multiple choice questions which were the same items between the academic year 2010 and the year 2011, were not different, although the average score of the students of the year 2011 washigher than those of the year 2010.

Discussion and Conclusion: In conclusion, learning achievement between e-learning and lecture were not different. But, in order to decrease limitation of one way communication because of learning from the media, it should be arrangedat least an hour for students to discuss with resource person.
