The purpose of this study was to examine learning style preferences of nursing students from each of the four year levels of Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. We also studied the relationship between learning style and college year level. The research design consisted of adescriptive study. The research instrument used for collecting data was a five-Likert Scale from Grasha and Riechmann’s questionnaire that assessed learning style preferences on a six dimensions, including independence, avoidance, collaboration, dependence, competitiveness, and participantion style which had reliability coefficient of 0.83. The samples included 724 nursing students which consisted of 179 first year students, 167 second year students, 232 third year students, and 146 fourth year students. Analyzing the data revealed that learning styles among nursing students are different but most of them had a collaborative learning style (49.3%-67.1%) and dependent learning style (13.4%-18.5%), respectively. Using Chi-square to compare learning styles among four college years revealed that the proportion of learning styles was significant related with the college years (p < 0.05). The finding of this study indicated that nursing curriculum might consider a good framework to design curriculum compatible with collaborative learning style such as small group discussions, seminars, role plays, and also to motivate them to set course learning objectives and evaluation.

*Assistant Professor. Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University.

*Lecturer.
