Effectiveness on TCPH ESI program for patient triage at Emergency Department Thabo Crown Prince Hospital

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study with pre-post group design aimed to examine the effect of the TCPH ESI for screening system at Emergency department, Thabo Crown Prince hospital in Nongkhai province. The participants included registered nurses and paramedics (n=14), working at Emergency department. The TCPH ESI program was implemented for research instrument. Measurement tools consisted of demographic questionnaire, the assessment of Triage management knowledge, and Triage practice skill checklist.  (IOC from 0.67 – 1.00). Data was also obtained from 140 medical records of patients, presenting at emergency room.  Descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon Sign Rang Test and One sample t-test were used for data analysis.

          Result showed that after program completion, the participants reported that the average score of knowledge of Triage management at post intervention was higher than score in baseline assessment (p < .001). All participant showed effective skill of Triage greater than 80%.  Therefore, this program should be implemented continuously. Practicing of Triage as well as empowerment should be emphasized in order to enhance screening competency of staff.
