การผ่าตัดเจาะคอและใส่ท่อหลอดลมคอสำหรับผู้ป่วยภาวะวิกฤติ เป็นการรักษาที่พบบ่อยและเกิดภาวะแทรกซ้อนได้ง่าย พยาบาลในหอผู้ป่วยไอซียูมีบทบาทสำคัญในการดูแลเพื่อป้องกันภาวะแทรกซ้อนในผู้ป่วยที่ได้รับการเจาะคอและใส่ท่อหลอดลมคอ วัตถุประสงค์ของบทความนี้ เพื่อนำเสนอประเด็นสำคัญเกี่ยวกับภาวะแทรกซ้อนหลังการเจาะคอและใส่ท่อหลอดลมคอ ได้แก่ การมีเลือดออกรอบๆ ตำแหน่งที่เจาะคอ การมีลมอยู่ในเนื้อเยื่อใต้ผิวหนังที่เกิดจากการผ่าตัดเจาะคอ การอุดตันของท่อหลอดลมคอ และท่อหลอดลมคอผิดตำแหน่ง บทบาทของพยาบาลในการดูแลผู้ป่วยในภาวะวิกฤตหลังผ่าตัดเจาะคอและใส่ท่อหลอดลมคอ ได้แก่ การประเมินภาวะเลือดออก การดูแลแผลเจาะคอ การดูดเสมหะทางท่อหลอดลมคอ และการดูแลถุงลมของท่อหลอดลมคอ ถ้าพยาบาลสามารถประเมินปัญหาดังกล่าวได้ตั้งแต่แรก จะช่วยป้องกันภาวะแทรกซ้อนในผู้ป่วยที่ได้รับการเจาะคอ
