The effect of skill development program for caring of monks with illness on knowledge and taking care skills of the monks, Phetchabun Province.

Abstract

          This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effect of skill development program for caring of monks with illness on knowledge and taking care skills of the monks in Phetchabun province. Samples were 70 monks and were divided into 2 groups as experimental group and control group. Each group included 35 monks. An experimental group was enrolled to the program. On the other hand, the control group did the ordinary way to take care the monks with illness. Skill development program for caring of monks with illness composed of education for health promotion, skills in measuring vital signs, dressing wounds, feeding through tubes and resuscitation. Data collection tools were personal information questionnaire, an assessment form of knowledge and taking care skills. Data were analyzed for describing the characteristic of samples by means, standard deviation and comparing the difference of results between experimental group and control group by Wilcoxon-signed rank test and Mann Whitney U test.

          The results showed that: 1) an average score of knowledge and taking care skills of the experimental group after participating the program were statistical significantly higher than before at p < 0.05. 2) an average score of knowledge and taking care skills in an experimental group were statistical significantly higher scores than control group at p < .05. In conclusion, the Skill development program for caring of monks with illness can improve the knowledge and taking care skills in the monks. Therefore, health personnel can apply this program for caring of monks with illness and used to promote health care in monks with illness.
