Effects of a teenage pregnancy prevention program on health literacy and pregnancy preventive behavior of students at a high school in Nonthaburi Province

Abstract
This quasi-experimental research aims to study the effects of a teenage pregnancy prevention program on health literacy and pregnancy preventive behavior of students at a high school in Nonthaburi province. A sample of 60 students, was selected using the two-stage sampling method. They were equally divided into the experimental and control groups. Research tools included 1) a teenage pregnancy prevention program based on Roger’s protection motivation theory, 2) a health literacy assessment based on Nutbeam’s health literacy, and 3) a questionnaire on pregnancy preventive behavior. The content validity indexes of research tools number 2 and 3 were 0.92. and 0.80 and their Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were 0.82. and 0.77 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The results were as follows. After attending the teenage pregnancy prevention program, the experimental group had higher health literacy and pregnancy preventive behavior than before the attendance and higher than the control group at p < .05.
