Abstract
Metacognition in the second step of problem-based learning.

Problem-based learning is a process of self directed learning, small group discussion and triggering learning process by a problem or a scenario. The learning outcome is critical thinking. Problem -based learning composed of 7 steps including; 1) clarification of unfamiliar terms, 2) problem definition, 3) brain storming, 4) problem analysis, 5) formulating learning issues, 6) self study and 7) reporting to the class. Learner have to consciously learn in each steps from critical read a prescriptive problem or a scenario that leads to logical analysis and discussion especially in the second step. It was founded that most questions were unclear and did not lead to the extensive debate. Metacognition or re-think question about questions at the end of the second step is reflection on the questioning skills. As the result, learner can reassess their own initial thought and clarify new questions which lead to better learning outcomes.
