Abstract
A community participation model of tobacco accessibility prevention for youth in Muang district, Chaiyaphum province

The objectives of this study were to examine participating situation, and select and evaluate a community participation model of tobacco accessibility prevention for youth in Muang district, Chaiyaphum province, Thailand. Quantitative, qualitative, and participatory action research method were derived for this study; which were defined into five stages, examining participating situation, selecting a participation model, finding possibility to implement, and testing and evaluating the selected model. Samples were community members, community leaders, academic experts, and health care providers. Data collection was done through questionnaires, focus group, in-depth interviews, and community forum record. Result reveals that community participation of tobacco prevention for youth was at a moderate level. The selected model of tobacco accessibility prevention for youth consists of community administration committee, scope of community participation, and community participation process. The appropriateness of the model was at a high level and the possibility to implement was at a moderate level. Results of the model test reveal high levels of model appropriateness and benefit to perform. This participation model of tobacco accessibility prevention for youth could be applied as a pilot model for a community participation model in other area.
