Oral Health Care in DM Patient : Study in 2007.

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative research was to study the oral health care behavior and associated factors of Diabetes Mellitus patients. 30 Diabetes Mellitus patients in Diabetes Mellitus clinic of Maesuai hospital were sampled by purposive sampling. Collected data by in-depth interview, focus group discussion, observation and documents. Assured the reliability with triangulation. This study revealed that almost of the sample had knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus and how to control blood sugar level themselves. The patients' self caring behavior depended on the support from their families. Almost of the sample had no idea about oral diseases and the relationship between Diabetes Mellitus and oral periodontitis. The oral health promotion programs should be continuously and seriously for Diabetes Mellitus patients to realize and take good care of their oral hygiene.
