Abstract

               Beautiful days เป็นชุดรวมนวนิยายขนาดสั้นของเถิง เสี่ยวหลาน (Teng Xiaolan) ที่ตีพิมพ์และแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษในปี ค.ศ.2014 ผู้เขียนใช้เซี่ยงไฮ้ซึ่งได้รับการฟื้นฟูให้กลับมาเป็นมหานครที่สำคัญของจีนเป็นฉากหลักของเรื่องควบคู่กับการนำเสนอตัวละครที่ยึดมั่นกับขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีในครอบครัวจีนและตัวละครที่ยึดโยงอย่างแนบแน่นอยู่กับอุปรากรจีน ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในศิลปะเก่าแก่ของจีน กลวิธีการประพันธ์อาจทำให้กล่าวได้ว่าเป็นการประกอบสร้างอัตลักษณ์จีน หรือกล่าวได้อีกนัยหนึ่งว่าวิถีชีวิตของตัวละครสื่อให้เห็นถึงรากเหง้าทางวัฒนธรรมจีนให้ปรากฏแก่สายตาของผู้อ่าน กลวิธีการประพันธ์จึงเป็นการผลิตซ้ำวัฒนธรรมจีนดั้งเดิมซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นการตื่นรู้เกี่ยวกับการรักษาวัฒนธรรมจีน อันถือได้ว่าเป็นปรากฏการณ์สำคัญอันหนึ่งในสังคมจีนท่ามกลางการปะทะของวัฒนธรรมดั้งเดิมและวัฒนธรรมสมัยใหม่ นอกจากนั้น การแปลวรรณกรรมเป็นภาษาอังกฤษได้สร้างความรับรู้เกี่ยวกับจารีตประเพณีจีนให้กว้างขวางมากขึ้นในกลุ่มผู้อ่านที่มิใช่ชาวจีน การผลิตซ้ำอัตลักษณ์ที่เชื่อมโยงอยู่กับรากเหง้าทางวัฒนธรรมจึงเป็นสินค้าทางวัฒนธรรมที่ดึงดูดผู้อ่านที่มีความสนใจในวัฒนธรรมจีน

                 Beautiful days is a set of novellas written by Teng Xiaolan and translated to English in 2014. The Author uses Shanghai resurrected to be one of China’s important cosmopolitans as a main setting. Meanwhile, the stories are developed around the characters who strongly confine themselves to idea of Chinese traditional family and who have firmed tie with Chinese opera, which is one of Chinese traditional arts. The writing style makes it possible to claim that the Chinese identities are constructed. On the other hand, the characters’ living styles reveal Chinese cultural root to the readers. The writing style, therefore, is the reproduction of Chinese traditional custom which indicates Chinese cultural awakening; one of the important phenomenon in Chinese society amid the culture clash of traditional and modern culture. Besides, translation spreads the knowledge about Chinese tradition to non-Chinese readers. The identity reproduction related to the cultural root is the cultural commodity which attracts the readers who are interested in Chinese culture.
