Musical analysis of Native Land for Orchestra

Abstract
Native Land is the fourth movement of a symphonic poem, Bangkok City, composed for orchestra. It is the first contemporary music composition inspired by sites and cultural diversity of Bangkok and it seeks to depict composer’s impression of cultural diversity and modern Thai society which is a result of globalization. The piece employs musical elements to create ambience of Thai music by combining musical motifs from Thai country music, and melodic patterns typically played by traditional instruments of North East Thailand, Kaen and Pin, with contemporary compositional techniques. The piece also delivers composer’s personality and musical identity through diverse cultural and musical influences drawn to this particular piece while creating a balance between traditional and modern sounds.
