          บทความชิ้นนี้ต้องการศึกษา บทบาทและอิทธิพลของพื้นที่ศิลปะทางเลือกโปรเจค 304 ที่มีต่อศิลปะร่วมสมัยไทย โปรเจค 304 คือพื้นที่แสดงผลงานศิลปะในลักษณะองค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไร ดำเนินงานโดยศิลปินและภัณฑารักษ์อิสระ โดยเริ่มเปิดพื้นที่แสดงงานครั้งแรกในปี พ.ศ. 2539 มีเป้าหมายในการสนับสนุนศิลปินรุ่นใหม่ให้จัดนิทรรศการ ตลอดจนผลักดันเพื่อให้เข้าสู่เวทีศิลปะร่วมสมัยในระดับนานาชาติ ซึ่งในช่วงเวลาดังกล่าววงการศิลปะประเทศไทยค่อนข้างซบเซาและขาดการสนับสนุนจากทางภาครัฐและเอกชนทำให้ ขาดแคลนพื้นที่สำหรับศิลปินรุ่นใหม่ ดังนั้นการเกิดขึ้นของโปรเจค 304 จึงเป็นการตอบโจทย์ในสิ่งที่สังคมไทย ยังขาด พื้นที่แห่งนี้เป็นพื้นที่แสดงผลงานศิลปะสำหรับศิลปินทุกรุ่น ทั้งศิลปินไทยและศิลปินระดับนานาชาติ ถึงแม้ว่าโปรเจค 304 จะได้ปิดตัวลงไปในปี พ.ศ. 2545 แต่ก็ยังคงบทบาทและอิทธิพลต่อวงการศิลปะร่วมสมัยไทยในปัจจุบันโดยแบ่งเป็นสามด้านใหญ่ๆ ได้แก่ การสร้างบทบาทในเชิงสถาบัน อิทธิพลของกิจกรรมทางศิลปะของโปรเจค 304    ที่มีผลต่อรูปแบบการสร้างผลงานของศิลปิน ร่วมถึงการสร้างคุณค่าในเชิงปรัชญาสุนทรีศาสตร์ในงานศิลปะร่วมสมัย

Abstract

            This article examines the role and influence of project 304, an alternative space in Thai contemporary art. Project 304 is a non-profit, an experimental art space initiated and run by artists and curators since late 1996 in Bangkok. As an organization, Project 304 had dedicated itself to promoting young artists who seek alternative space, and public access to the contemporary art. At that time there seems to be no precedent for it in Thai art scene. The art community was lack of support from both government and private sector. Project 304 bring a greater awareness and appreciation of art in Thailand. This space had provided a forum for emerging local artists, as well as for well-established national and international ones. Although this place was closed in 2002, we can recognize as a pioneer in the current Thai art history. So i show these three subject below for deepeningthe understandably of the significant role of Project 304 in Thai. First, institutional role. Second, Artistic influence. Third, Philosophical.
