“Cursed and Charmed” and “Africa”

Abstract

            An analysis of 2 jazz compositions published on a CD recording “Ysror”, called “Africa” and “Cursed and Charmed”, composed by Peter Vandemoortele, available on Itunes.) The instrumentation of both works is electric guitar, electric bass and jazz drums. In this article the composer talks about the inspiration for the music, the harmonic concept of progressions and regressions, and the change of meter as a compositional device.
