Abstract

ABSTRACT

This classroom research aimed to evaluate the outcomes of an initiate instruction - Integrated Learning Week in terms of learning abilities on academic skills and self development. The initiate instruction was designed for the fourth year students, program of Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Major in Health Education. It was 2-week learning activities carried out at the end of the first semester which provided students with an opportunity for applying knowledge they had learned from each subject. Learning activities were designed based on Constructivism and Brain-Based Learning theories, using problem-based instruction, experiential learning, self-directed study, group work, informative feedback, coaching and supportive relationship. The evaluation results demonstrated the improvement of outcomes. Self-evaluation scores of learning abilities on academic skills, and self development before and after participating in the learning weeks were significantly different. All students increased their scores of learning ability on academic skills, while about 77 percent increased their scores of self development learning abilities. This successfully instructional model and its lesson learned have been adopted and put into the routine timetable of the first semester of the program.
