Abstract

The objective of this study is to compare the outcomes between surgical removal of lower third molars in the suture and sutureless techniques. In this clinical trial with a split-mouth design, involved separate timing for assessments, conducted at two different points: 7 days and 6 months after surgery. During the initial 7-day period, 52 patients aged 14 to 39 years old, were included in the study. These patients were divided into two groups: the suture and the sutureless groups. All patients underwent surgical removal of impacted teeth by two oral and maxillofacial surgeons. During the second period over the next 6 months, 34 patients returned for evaluation. The focus was on assessing pocket depth and bone level at the distal area of the lower second molars using panoramic radiographs. The outcomes indicated that there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in pain and swelling scores on days 1, 3, and 7 after surgery, pocket depth and bone level in lower second molar next 6 months. There was no excessive bleeding after surgery in two groups. From this study, the surgical removal of partially erupted mandibular molars using a sutureless technique yielded outcomes that achieved with a suture technique. Additionally, the sutureless technique offered the advantage of reducing surgery time and eliminating the need for postoperative suture removal.
