Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

According to the Thai Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) announcement dated June 24, 2019, regarding the assessment of ethics and code of conduct for Thai academic journals in the TCI database, an additional ethical framework has been established beyond the standard evaluation criteria. The Editorial Board hereby outlines the roles, duties, and responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process in accordance with the publication ethics requirements of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:
Roles, Duties, and Ethics of Authors
1. Originality and Submission Guarantees: When submitting a manuscript via the TU-OSS system, authors must warrant that the work is entirely their own and has not been published elsewhere. Authors agree not to submit the manuscript for publication consideration to any other venue within 90 days of submission. Since the peer review process is double-blind, authors must omit all names and identifying information from the manuscript file.
2. Formatting Compliance: Authors must prepare their manuscripts in strict accordance with the formatting standards set out in the "Author Guidelines."
3. Proper Citation: Authors must properly and appropriately cite the work of others whenever referencing external data or literature. Citations must accurately reflect the cited content, avoiding misrepresentation in both quantity and quality.
4. Funding and Conflict of Interest: Authors must explicitly declare all sources of research funding and any potential conflicts of interest (if applicable).
5. Authorship Eligibility: All listed authors must have made a substantial, direct contribution to the conduct of the research.
6. Data Integrity: Authors must report authentic research findings and must not provide false or fabricated data.
Roles, Duties, and Ethics of Editors
1. Quality Oversight: Editors are responsible for evaluating and ensuring the academic quality of every manuscript published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
2. Impartiality and Confidentiality: Editors must be free from any conflict of interest regarding authors and peer reviewers. They must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all author and reviewer details during the evaluation period.
3. Publication Decisions: Manuscripts are evaluated based on their alignment with the journal's scope and objectives, the significance of the research, the rigor of the methodology, and the completeness of case reports. All submissions undergo plagiarism screening to ensure originality.
4. Handling Misconduct: If plagiarism is detected during the review process, the editor must halt the process immediately and contact the primary author for an explanation.
5. Evidence-Based Decisions: In cases of uncertainty, editors must gather conclusive evidence before taking action and must not reject a manuscript without clear proof or justification.
Roles, Duties, and Ethics of Reviewers
1. Confidentiality: Reviewers must maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all or part of the submitted manuscript and must not disclose information to unauthorized persons during the review period.
2. Conflict of Interest Disclosure: Upon receiving a manuscript, if reviewers identify a potential conflict of interest—such as collaborative involvement with the authors or any factor that hinders an objective evaluation—they must promptly inform the editor and decline the review request.
3. Objective Evaluation: Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts within their area of expertise, assessing the manuscript's contribution to the field, methodological validity, data analysis quality, and overall academic value. Subjective opinions unsupported by evidence must be avoided.
4. Identification of Prior Work: If reviewers notice relevant published research that closely resembles or matches the manuscript under review, or identify substantial overlaps, they must report this to the editor.
Human and Animal Research Ethics
For original research involving human subjects or animal experimentation, approval must be granted by an institutional Research Ethics Committee prior to conducting the study. Authors are required to state the ethical approval/certificate number clearly within the manuscript.
