A study of quality of emergency patient triage in Phonphisai Hospital, Nongkhai

This descriptive research aimed to study of quality of emergency patient triage in Phonphisai Hospital, Nongkhai, both quality, and quantity. The samples of the research were 424 retrospective emergency medical records since April 1st, 2018 to April 30th, 2018, and 32 health personals. Sampling was purposive sampling. The instruments were the questionnaire which included personal information in the medical records, and group discussion and in-depth interview with relevant health professionals. The data analysis used frequency, percentage, and qualitative data analyzed by content analysis. The results showed that 1) from medical records, showed that 51.90% of emergency patients were male. The minimum age of the patient was 3 months old, and the maximum was 88. 63.70% of those using health insurance rights, and 12.20% used public and state-enterprise welfare. 47.60% of those were brought to the hospital by their relatives, 38.60% went by their own, 9.40% were from outpatients, and 4.20% were sent by rescuers. 2) Under triage (24.00%) was at 08.31 a.m-04.30 p.m.-64.00%, and at 04.31 p.m.-00.30 a.m. Over triage (32.10%) was at 08.31 a.m.-04.30 p.m.-44.60%, and that at 04.31p.m.-00.30a.m. For qualitative data, the interviewee said, was that under the limited of resources for medical treatment, it helped to order patients to be treated before and after based on the cases. The triage also helped nurses in the emergency unit worked, communicated in the same direction, reducing the mistake, patients got proper treatment. The problems were personally lacking, inexperience in triage, triage-systems in the hospital was a difference.
