The development of clinical nursing practice guideline to prevent peritonitis of peritoneal dialysis patients, Kumpawapi Hospital, Udon Thani

The research aimed to develop and evaluate a clinical nursing practice guideline for the prevention of peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients, Kumpawapi Hospital, Udon Thani Province. By selecting 2 specific samples; 1) 25 register nurses in a Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis department and 2) 50 patients or families or caregiver’s peritoneal dialysis patients. The tools consisted of a questionnaire of possible to application and satisfaction of the patients, families or caregivers to the clinical nursing practice guidelines. The content validity index [cvi] = 0.87-1.00
The results showed that 1) The clinical nursing practice guidelines for the prevention of peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients, could be preventing consist of (1) handwashing, (2) exchanging dialysis solution, (3) recording and observation of drained dialysis solution, (4) caring for catheter and wound (5) caring for instrument and management of the home environment 2) A clinical nursing practice guideline for the prevention of peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients was a high level of usage possibility (x = 4.42, SD = 0.28) 3) The satisfaction of the patients, families or caregivers to the clinical nursing practice guidelines for the prevention of peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients at a high level (X = 4.13, SD = 0.30) 4) no incidence of peritonitis after implementation of the clinical nursing practice guidelines for the prevention of peritonitis in 50 peritoneal dialysis patients.
