Development of a Caring Model for Patients with Sepsis in Surat Thani Hospital

This research and development design aimed to develop the process of a model of care as well as to assess the efficacy of the nursing guideline and nurse case managers for patients with sepsis at Surat Thani hospital. The study involved seven nurse case ma.nagers, 108 registered nurses, and 100 patients with sepsis. The instruments were the caring model which consisted of the nursing guideline and nurse case manager guideline for patients with sepsis. The instruments of data collection comprised of the patient medical records, the knowledge assessment form, the guideline evaluation form and the satisfaction assessment form. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
After using the caring model the results found that 92% of patients had a Mean Arterial Pressure ≥65 mmHg within the first hours. The length of stay in hospital was decreased , 90% of patients received the antibiotic drug after diagnosis which was higher than before using the model. All patients were evaluated SOS score when they were admitted and 80% of patients had evaluated SOS score every two hours 85.19% of nurses had the highest knowledge about how to screening patients with sepsis. The satisfaction rate of patients were higher than before using a model with a statistical significance (p < .05) Therefore, the care model for patients with sepsis from this study should be applied to improve the outcome of nursing practice.
