Care Program Development for HIV-infected Pregnant Women for Prevention of Perinatal HIV Transmission in Phon Phisai Hospital, Nong Khai Province

Abstract

        This research and development was performed during October 2020 – March 2021. The research tools included literacy assessment, opinion survey and satisfaction questionnaire regarding the research project, and in-depth interview and group discussion, which all of them were tested for reliability (0.87, 0.89,0.85, respectively).
The data collected were analyzed for descriptive statistics , paired t-test for difference analysis and content validity analysis for qualitative data.
        The results revealed that 45.5 % delayed prenatal care (over 12-weeks late); 40% delayed receiving anti-retroviral treatment (over 32-week gestational late); 4.5% disengaged prenatal care and labor; and 13.6% delayed prenatal care and concealed HIV status from husband. The HIV-infected pregnant women were very satisfied with prenatal care program in all aspects (p-value < 0.001), the pregnant women were very satisfied with the developed care program with the average score of 4.85 (SD = 0.28). In addition, the literacy assessment found that the health care service giver had pre-development of the care program literacy score of 12.80 (SD = 2.88) and 16.10 (SD = 1.52) for the post-development of the care program.
This was found to be increasing with statistical significance (p-value < 0.001). 65.4% and 34.6% of the health care service giver were very satisfied and neither satisfied,
nor dissatisfied, respectively. This research suggested that the development of care program increased the effectiveness of prenatal care for HIV-infected pregnant women for the purpose of prevention of perinatal HIV transmission and eradicated HIV-perinatal infection.
Therefore, this developed care program should be implemented indifferent areas.
