Effect of developing training courses on improving contraceptive counseling ability of teachers' professional students

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the necessary requirements for developing a training curriculum, develop the training curriculum, implement it, and evaluate the training program to enhance the ability to provide contraception counseling for adolescents among pre-service teacher students using the Taba framework. The research objectives include: 1) Studying the situation and necessary requirements for curriculum development by collecting data from 15 participants. 2) Defining the training objectives after studying and analyzing the requirements. 3) Selecting content. 4) Organizing and compiling content.
5) Choosing learning experiences that align with the course content and objectives. 6) Structuring the learning experiences and 7) Defining what will be assessed and the assessment methods.

The research findings indicate that the training program for enhancing the ability to provide contraception counseling for adolescents among pre-service teacher students includes curriculum principles, curriculum objectives, content structure, three learning units, instructional media, measurement tools, and evaluation. The curriculum's quality was checked and found to be highly suitable for actual implementation, based on expert opinions. Furthermore, the results of the experimental use of the curriculum with a sample group of 30 participants revealed that students who participated in the training program scored significantly higher in knowledge about contraception counseling for adolescents after completing the training program ( = 16.17, SD = 1.44) compared to before the training ( = 9.90, SD = 1.54), with statistical significance at the 0.001 level. and higher contraception counseling for adolescents’ ability after completing the training program (X ̅ = 40.36, SD = 2.35) compared to before the training (X ̅ = 15.60, SD = 3.47), with statistical significance at the 0.001.
