Results of using the nursing practice promotion program for pregnant women with diabetes by midwife at Udon Thani Hospital.

Introduction: Enhancing the competencies of midwife in caring for pregnant women with diabetes can help reduce risks and complications for both the mothers and their newborns. Objective: To study the effectiveness of a program designed to promote professional midwife in caring for pregnant women with diabetes at Udon Thani Hospital.
Methodology: The sample group consisted of 20 midwives providing care to pregnant women with diabetes. Additionally, there were 40 individuals in the control group and 40 in the experimental group, all receiving services from the labour unit and high-risk pregnancy unit at Udon Thani Hospital. The program was developed based on Pronovost’s concept of change management (4Es Model). Data was collected using questionnaires measuring knowledge, nursing practice competencies, and blood sugar levels of both the pregnant women and their newborns. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and chi-square tests.
Results: After participating in the program, the average knowledge scores of professional nurses regarding the care of pregnant women with diabetes significantly increased (p<.001). Nursing practice competency scores also showed a significant improvement (p<.001). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the program to promote professional nursing practices in the care of pregnant women with diabetes can reduce risks and complications for both mothers and their newborns.
Recommendations: The nursing competency enhancement program for the care of pregnant women with diabetes should be further developed competency with technology, such as simulation method or other platforms, to support ongoing knowledge development for midwife.
