การบริหารยาทางปากในผู้ป่วยเด็กต้องคำนึงถึงความแตกต่างด้านสรีรวิทยา พัฒนาการ ความสามารถในการกลืน และความร่วมมือในการรับประทานยา ซึ่งอาจส่งผลต่อความถูกต้องของขนาดยาและความปลอดภัย บทความฟื้นฟูวิชาการนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสังเคราะห์หลักฐานและแนวทางปฏิบัติสำหรับพยาบาล ครอบคลุมการเลือกรูปแบบยา การตรวจสอบความเหมาะสมก่อนแบ่งหรือบดเม็ดยา การตวงยาน้ำด้วยหน่วยมิลลิลิตร (mL) และกระบอกตวงยาสำหรับรับประทาน (oral syringe) ตลอดจนการจัดท่า การป้อนยา และการสื่อสารตามช่วงวัยของเด็ก หลักฐานจากการทดลองตวงยาน้ำในผู้ปกครองชี้ว่าการใช้ถ้วยตวงและความไม่สอดคล้องของหน่วยบนฉลากกับอุปกรณ์เพิ่มความคลาดเคลื่อน พยาบาลจึงควรทวนสอบคำสั่งการรักษา เลือกอุปกรณ์ให้เหมาะกับปริมาตรยา และให้ผู้ดูแลสาธิตวิธีตวงและป้อนยาก่อนกลับบ้าน การดูแลดังกล่าวผสานการตรวจสอบความถูกต้องทางยาเข้ากับการสร้างความร่วมมือของเด็กและครอบครัว
