Factors Related To The Performance Of Clinical Practice For Patient Safety Among Nursing Students
Keywords:

The purpose of this descriptive research was to study factors related to the performance of clinical practice for patient safety among nursing students. The sample consisted of 113 third- and fourth-year nursing students recruited by simple random sampling. The research instruments were a personal data record form, the perception of self-efficacy in nursing practice for patient safety evaluation, and the attitude towards patient safety and performance of clinical practice for patient safety evaluation. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, two-way ANOVA, and multiple regression.
The results revealed that level of education, perception of self-efficacy in nursing practice for patient safety, and attitude towards patient safety could significantly explain 20.6% of the variation in clinical practice for patient safety (p <.05). Significant predictors of performance of clinical practice for patient safety were perception of self-efficacy in nursing practice for patient safety (b =.318, p<.01), level of education (b = -.216, p<.01), and attitude towards patient safety (b = .188, p<.05). Difference in learning achievement was significantly related to performance of clinical practice for patient safety (p < .01). The mean scores of performance of clinical practice for patient safety for third-year students was significantly higher than for fourth-year students (p < .05). These results suggest that the improvement of nursing students’ performance of clinical practice for patient safety should place emphasis on strengthening nursing students’ self-efficacy and attitude towards patient safety.
