Capacity Development of Village Health Volunteers to Promote and Support Mental Health

Abstract

Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) is an important mechanism of the Ministry of Public Health providing direct services its clientele. Covering all villages across the country, and in today’s rapidly changing situation, it requires cooperation from all relevant personnel to maximize control and prevention of COVID-19 and appropriately care for the physical and mental health of the people in each village. In this article, the authors describe capacity development of village health volunteers in order to promote and support mental health. There are four key components: (1) development of digital technology literacy, (2) development of health literacy, (3) leadership of health change, and (4) development of health literacy designed to create value, drive and expand the results of the village health volunteers’ leadership. The program can be used as a guideline to develop the potential of personnel involved in the departments of the Ministry of Public Health to promote and support mental health.
