This research aimed to identify the factors related to self-efficacy and tourism marine assisting accidental victims’ behaviors among coastal entrepreneurs in Mueang district, Chon Buri province. Three hundred and forty-five coastal entrepreneurs were recruited using a multi-stage random sampling technique. Research instruments included questionnaires to gather data for demographic information, self-efficacy, the experience of seeing accident victims, and tourism marine assisting accidental victims’ behaviors. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were .86, .78, and .93, respectively. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, and One-Way ANOVA were used to analyze data.
The results revealed that 262 participants (75.94%) had experienced witnessing marine tourism accidents, and the average number of experiences of seeing accident victims was 3.29 (SD= 2.81). The coastal entrepreneurs’ self-efficacy was low (M = 1.19, SD = 0.61). Furthermore, 243 participants (70.43 %) had low level of tourism marine assisting accidental victims’ behaviors (M = 1.37, SD = 0.71). For correlation analysis, age had a low level of positive correlation with statistically significant self-efficacy (r= .22, p< .001) and a low level of negative correlation with statistically significant tourism marine assisting accidental victims’ behaviors (r= -.16, p< .05). The experience of seeing accident victims had a medium level positive correlation with statistically significant self-efficacy and tourism marine assisting accidental victims’ behaviors (r=.47, p<.001; r= 41, p<.001; r=.60, p<.001). Self-efficacy had a medium level positive correlation with statistically significant tourism marine assisting accidental victims’ behaviors (r=.60, p<.001). Following the comparison of means, different educational levels had statistically different means for self-efficacy and tourism marine assisting accidental victims’ behaviors (F= 25.77, p<.001; F= 8.39, p< .001, respectively). The different groups of entrepreneurs had statistically different means of self-efficacy (F= 4.41, p < .05). The findings suggest that the nurses and other health care providers can develop training programs to enhance the first aid skills of the coastal entrepreneurs by focusing on self-efficacy.
