Abstract

This study aimed to describe the quality of life, self-care behaviors, and social support and identify the factors related to the quality of life in elderly people. A sample of 130 elderly people from Tambon Nawonge Mueang district in Phetchaburi province was recruited by a simple random sampling. Research instruments were questionnaires to gather data for demographic information, self-care behavior, social support, and quality of life. The data were analyzed using Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product-moment correlation.

The results revealed that the sample had a good quality of life (M= 100.31, SD =0.69), and a high level of self-care behaviors and social support (M= 4.08, SD=0.97; M= 4.12, SD=0.86, respectively). The correlational analysis revealed that quality of life significantly positively correlated with self-care behaviors and social support (r=.648, p < .01; r=.246, p < .01, respectively). The findings suggest that nurses and other health care providers can apply these results to develop programs promoting quality of life among the elderly by focusing on self-care behaviors and social support.
