Abstract

This two group pre-post testquasi- experimental research, aimed to study the effects of combining contemplative education activities with a practicum to reduce stress  and enhance coping  of nursing students during clinical practice.  The sample was thirty-four sophomore  nursing students divided two groups: a control group and an experiental group.  Each group was consisted of 17 persons.   The control group employed a regular learning teaching, while the experiental group employed combining a contemplative activity. Research collection  used  questionnaires of stress of  and coping while practicing in clinics  were validity proved  between 0.67 and 1.00 and reliably proved at .87 and .77 respectively. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney U test.  The results of the study indicated as follow: The stress core of the experimental group after receiving the teaching  model with contemplative education in  practicum was significantly lower than the control group  receiving the normal teaching (p=.04).  After using the teaching model with contemplative education in practicum, the experimental participants  was significantly higher coping than the control group  receiving the normal teaching (p <.001).   Per findings, the contemplative activity could enable reducing stress and enhancing coping among nursing students in a practicum.  It may conclude that combining a contemplative approach with clinical practice during clinical practice can enhance nursing students’ positive psychology and coping management for student nurses during clinical practice.
