Abstract

This action research aimed to develop a postoperative pain management model for elderly patients with hip fractures undergoing hip replacement surgery. The study involved 30 elderly patients and 12 professional nurses. The research instruments included: (1) a postoperative pain management model, (2) a general data and pain assessment form for elderly patients with hip fractures, (3) a satisfaction assessment form for the elderly, and (4) a satisfaction assessment form for professional nurses. The study was conducted between October 2023 and June 2024, with qualitative data analyzed through content analysis and quantitative data using descriptive statistics.

The findings revealed that the developed pain management model consisted of two stages: pre-operative and post-operative care. After implementing the model, 73.33% of the elderly patients reported experiencing only slight pain. Furthermore, the elderly participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with the pain management model (M = 4.51, SD = 0.58), while professional nurses also reported high satisfaction with its implementation (M = 4.56, SD = 0.52). The results suggest that this postoperative pain management model can be applied in other clinical settings to standardize pain management and improve the quality of nursing care for elderly patients undergoing hip replacement surgery.
