This research employed a research and development design with the objective of developing an individual counseling model to promote health among people living with HIV. The study was conducted in two phases: the development phase and the implementation and evaluation phase. The participants consisted of 10 individuals for focus group discussion, 18 participants in the experimental group, and 18 in the control group. The research instruments included a focus group discussion record form, the individual counseling model, a health record form for CD4 cell count, and a satisfaction assessment form. Data were analyzed using content analysis, mean, standard deviation, and independent t-test.
The results of the development phase revealed that the individual counseling model consisted of five stages: building rapport, mutual agreement, problem exploration and understanding, individualized health planning, and evaluation.
In the implementation phase, the results showed that the CD4 cell counts of the experimental group (mean = 399.44, standard deviation = 114.02) were significantly higher than those of the control group (mean = 319.38, standard deviation = 80.54) at the .05 level. Additionally, the CD4 cell counts after the intervention were significantly higher than before the intervention. The satisfaction of the experimental group was at the highest level (mean = 4.20).
These findings indicate that the developed individual counseling model can be applied in HIV clinics within healthcare settings to promote continuous care and patient-centered health services.
