Keywords:
Health perception, Health behavior, Metabolic syndromeAbstract
The purposes of this descriptive research were to study 1) the level of health perceptions and health behaviors among health care personnel with metabolic syndrome 2) Determine the relationship between health perceptions and health behaviors among health care personnel with metabolic syndrome. The subjects were 130 personnel who had been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. The research instruments were health perception and health behavior questionnaire. The reliabilities approached by Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient were 0.90 and 0.84, respectively. The data were then analyzed by using descriptive and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient statistics. The study findings revealed as follows:
1. The overall health perceptions and health behavior were at good levels (M= 4.02, SD= 0.50; M= 2.60, SD= 0.30, respectively).
2. There were no relationship between health perception and health behaviors (r=0.05). As for considering in each aspect, the highest level of relationship was positively correlated relationship between perception towards severity of diseases and stress management behavior. (r=.34; p< .01). The perception towards risk of diseases was negatively correlated with personal health responsibility behavior. (r = .18; p < .05).
Therefore, to promote appropriate health behavior among health care personnel with metabolic syndrome, perception towards severity of diseases and advantages of disease prevention should be encouraged to support positive changing of health behavior.
