Needed and Received Nursing Care among Mothers during Early Postpartum Rooming-in, Hua Hin Hospital

The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between needed and received nursing care among mothers during early postpartum rooming-in. The subjects were 302 normal delivery mothers at postpartum ward, Hua Hin Hospital. The data were collected through needed and received nursing care questionnaire among rooming-in mothers. The reliability approached by Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient was 0.912. The data were then analyzed by using descriptive and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient statistics. The study findings revealed as follows:
1. The overall needed and received nursing care among mothers was at a moderate level (M = 2.92, SD = 0.441; M = 3.03, SD = 0.44, respectively).
2. The needed nursing care among mothers during early postpartum rooming-in, as considered for each aspect; caring infant and preparing to recover after childbirth were related to received nursing care in a very high positive levels (r=.970, r= .962, p< .01, respectively), moreover, physical, mental and emotional aspects were also related in a very high levels (r =.895, r=.854, p< .01, respectively).
Therefore, to improve the quality of nursing process for postpartum mothers, nursing activities that meet their needed and received nursing care should be enhanced in order to maximize client benefits.
