Perception of Self-esteem of Women Having Given Birth, Police General Hospital

The purpose of this descriptive research was to study the level of self-esteem among women giving birth at Police General Hospital. The subjects were 104 women who gave birth at Police General Hospital. The reliability of research instrument; a self-esteem assessment was 0.85. The data were then analyzed for finding percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results revealed as follows;
1. The overall self-esteem level of the samples was at moderate level (M = 2.95, SD=.723). For each aspect, the behavioral aspect had the highest score (M = 3.10, SD = .664) followed by the thinking aspect that had high mean score (M = 3.04, SD = .744), and the least was emotional aspect that ranked in a moderate level (M = 2.71, SD=.760).
2. As for considering in each aspect, it was found that the behavior aspect, the highest mean score was at item of responsibility (M = 3.17, SD=.643). While, the thinking aspect, the highest mean score was at item of positive thinking (M = 3.19, SD=.707). The mean scores on both aspects were at medium level. Whereas, item of confidence, the highest mean score in emotional aspect, was at medium level (M = 2.73, SD=.753).
Therefore, maternity nurses should provide nursing care together with self-esteem promotion among the clients in order to achieve satisfaction, hope and lead to good motherhood.
