Abstract

      Ischemic stroke is a chronic non-communicable disease that is a crucial public health problem in countries around the world. The purpose of this study was to compare the nursing care of two ischemic stroke patients in the community. The study instrument were a family folder and data record form. The comparison issues were health patterns, pathology, nursing care, health risk factors, and family care collaboration. The results revealed as follows;

            The first patient had weak left limb, did not reply when was asked, had a crooked mouth, he was first diagnosed with Ischemic Stroke with Hypokalemia and was hospitalized for 11 days. When discharged, the patient was cared by his wife to help him do physical therapy and receive 2 times of follow-up home visits.

       The second patient had weak right limb, slurred speech and drooping mouth corners, he was diagnosed with Ischemic Stroke with Hyperglycemia and was hospitalized for 5 days. When discharged, the patient was cared by his daughter to encourage him to exercise and receive 2 times of follow-up home visits.

      Therefore, nurses should emphasize on educating patients about rehabilitation care along with assessment of ischemic stroke symptoms to enable patients and their relatives to assess their symptoms themselves and seek urgently treatment which can reduce complication occurring.
