Factors Related to the Decision Making Process in Choosing Herbal Health Care of Chronic Kidney Disease Patients in Sam Roi Yot District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

The purposes of this correlational research were to determine 1) the level of health communication, motivation in disease prevention, and 2) the factors related to the decision making process in choosing herbal health care of Chronic Kidney Disease patients in Sam Roi Yot District. The samples were 152 Chronic Kidney Disease patients. The research instrument consisted of 3 parts of questionnaire; health communication, motivation in disease prevention, and decision making process in choosing herbal health care. The data were then analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation coefficient.
The results revealed as follows:
1. The mean score on health communication was at a high level (M=4.05, SD=0.39). Whereas, those of motivation in disease prevention and the decision making process in choosing herbal health care were at a medium level (M= 3.41, SD= 0.62; M = 3.48, SD= 0.59), respectively.
2. Health communication had a high level of positive correlation with decision making process in choosing herbal health care of Chronic Kidney Disease patients (r =.702, p<.05). Whereas, motivation in disease prevention had positive correlation with the decision making process at a medium level (r =.591, p<.01).
Therefore, nurses who care for Chronic Kidney Disease patients should provide health communication process that is accessible and easy to understand for patients and their relatives to enhance knowledge leading to the decision making process in choosing herbal health care according to the advice of health care personnel appropriately.
