Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare nursing care for 2 cataract patients with low vision. 2 patients treated in Ratchaburi Hospital were study based on real life conditions.        The tools used in the study were inpatient medical records and real life conditions records. The comparison issues included real life condition, nursing care, health risk factors, complications, and medical treatment. The study results revealed that

1st case Study was diagnosed as right-sided cataract with glaucoma both eyes. The treatment received was cataract surgery with intraocular lens implant. There was no complication. The patient can still see and be able to care himself, therefore, following up was Irregularly because he still had to work to earn money despite being sick in order not to be a burden on the offspring whose families had debt problems.

2nd case study was diagnosed as right eye cataract underwent intraocular lens implantation. The patient had complications such as swollen lens, blind left eye and had stayed in hospital for 6 days. According to real life study, it was found that, the patient was elderly with many chronic illnesses and their offspring had no time to care due to the economic needs of the family.

Therefore, nurses should emphasize on providing advice/health education, not only in similar pattern, but concerning on real life condition of each patient in order to comply individually  with the problems and limitations of each patient, so that they can properly be self-reliant.
